The Kaziranga event started when our team arrived at Kaziranga Girls High School which had more than 100 students (girls). The JBF team collaborated with the teaching faculty, who helped us out a great deal in disseminating information and educating the young minds about the zoonotic disease. Since, 4th October is celebrated as the World Day Animal, the team shared information about the same along with about the week-long drive that we have been conducting from 28th September, 2023, i.e., World Rabies Day. While interacting with the students, many claimed that they didn’t know anything about what Rabies is. This was the first time they came to know that Rabies as a disease is the most deadly one, mankind has encountered without any cure available. A great deal of information about how does Rabies happen, what are its symptoms and how to deal with it including the preventive measures. The President of Kaziranga Gaon Panchayat, Mr. Diganta Bora, was one of the main pillars of success of this event.

Our team further proceeded with Geleki M.E. School on the same day. The senior students from Classes 6-8 attended the awareness drive. Many of the students there were victims of Dog-Bites but they didn’t know about the post-medications for it. As a result, our team mainly focused on awaring them about the medications and immediate medical steps that can be immediately done by any person encountering the same situation. They also discussed about what would happen if Rabies is left untreated. The team also shared information about the signs and symptoms when a dog becomes rabid and what to do when such a dog is in the area. The response received from the students was commendable which indicated the huge success of the Awareness Drive.

At the evening, the team went to Kohora. The main objective was to carry out an awareness drive among the local shop-owners and street vendors in which Mr. Diganta Bora helped considerably. Leaflets were distributed with people present which had all the information about Rabies and simultaneously, anti-rabies postering was also carried out among various commercial ventures marking the end of the event on that day.
