No one can be aware of the essence of the pain and suffering an animal goes through unless HE/SHE is attached with an animal wholeheartedly. JBF works towards developing a peaceful relationship between Humans and Animals envisaged for the world. It is for us humans; the animals are interrupted to live their normal lives. Subject to huge usage of plastic, hunger for meat, aggressive suburbanization leading to many accidents killing thousands of stray animals on the road, human-made natural calamities to which animals are prey. As inhabitants of this planet, Earth, and as each organism holding a significant part in the food chain, JBF believes we are all dependent on each other, and co-existing is the mantra to transcend it. JBF started dreaming of Animal Welfare Project in North- East region of India and as such is the beginning of JIRAW, the dream project.

JIRAW (JBF Integrated Care and Resource Centre for Animal Welfare) is the dream project of JBF, Founder & Trustee Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, to expand its animal welfare activities in the North-Eastern region of the country. The objective of the project is to set up an integrated facility for animal welfare that can conduct quality research, support delivery of services, and training of skilled workers all within one umbrella administration. The upcoming JIRAW centre is located on a plot of land near Guwahati, Assam – the gateway to North East India.

The facility immortalizes late Ms Anne Little of UK who made the personal small contribution to JBF in her will, and JBF purchased the land which has been earmarked for the project. Once commissioned, the facility can fill the void of referral institutions in the context of animal welfare. Being planned for a regional level integrated institution, the centre is also planning to provide technical and managerial backstopping to field NGOs and welfare activist of North- East region part of India. The project also intends to grow as an extension of the AWBI supported Animal Shelter cum Veterinary Dispensary infrastructure on the same plot of land. Thus the Vet couple Sashanka & Smriti planned and decided to start the construction work to transform it into an organization for the animal welfare from the grass root level to a regional level integrated institution.
