World Cancer Day i.e. on 4th February this year is being observed by JBF (INDIA) TRUST, a Guwahati based animal welfare organization.
Nowadays, Cancer has become a very commonly mass known disease in terms of human. But the awareness and proper knowledge regarding the same disease in animals is still comparatively rare. In terms of animals especially in dogs it is found as TVT (Transmissible Veneral Granuloma/Tumor) which is a nodular, lumpy, pedunculated type of growth in the external genitalia of animals including dogs which causes pain, smell, bleeding and gradually makes the animal weak and lethargic.
JBF has been continuously working towards the eradication of cancer or related diseases of street dogs since decades. Similarly this year JBF has taken up a unique initiative to aware people regarding TVT through treating TVT infected street dogs and through inaugurating informative leaflets which will be distributed to the public to make them well aware regarding the disease.
To treat TVT as it is transmissible through sexual contact, ABC (Animal Birth Control) is the internationally recognised treatment to reduce the rate as well as to eradicate the disease. Since its inception, having ABC as a prime initiative JBF has been contributing to make a healthy environment for street dogs. ABC is not only the best remedy to control overpopulation but also it will diminish the rate of TVT in street dogs.
