JBF (INDIA) TRUST commonly known as JBF (Just Be Friendly) is a professionally managed not-for-profit social sector organization promoting the welfare of animals since its inception in 2003 and it aims to build a society that enables better life for animals and creates better living conditions with humans.
WHO ARE WE :
JBF (INDIA) TRUST is a registered non-profit social sector organization promoting the welfare of animals and to make a better world for animals. JBF is the only organization in the entire Northeast region except Sikkim that conducts Rabies Control Programs under the banner Humane Dog Population Management.
WHAT WE DO :
Under Humane Dog Population Management our Rabies control program includes core activities like animal birth control surgeries (spay/neuter) and anti-rabies vaccinations. Besides we do Rabies Awareness campaigns among general public, school & other institutions. We do mass social media campaigns and leaflet distributions against rabies telling people, children how to deal with a stray dog, dog bite injuries, about importance of pre-exposure and post exposure anti rabies vaccination shots. These activities need to be executed to have a ‘Rabies Free Society’ and to highlight the fact that prevention is of utmost importance.
HOW WE DO :
JBF in collaboration with the municipalities of various places have curate ABC-ARV programs. JBF has its dedicated team of its own that picks up and collects the stray/street/community dogs from the targeted area. They are then spayed & neutered and vaccinated against rabies in JBF-ABC clinic at JIRAW. After taken care throughout the entire healing process and once healed they are released back to the place from where they have been picked up. All the dogs are given permanent identification mark by giving V-shaped ear notch or cut at ear tip during surgery.
Since 2007 and till date we have vaccinated, spayed & neutered more than 30,000 strays including community and rescued dogs.
WHERE WE DO :
At present we are doing our ABC-ARV project at Guwahati, Assam as a central place and heart of the Northeast part of India, although we have covered various places of Assam in past years. To name a few in the list are Jorhat, Duliajan, Nazira, Tezpur University Campus, NHPC Campus at Kokrajhar, fringe areas of Manas wildlife sanctuary, Mounglang Khamti Buddhist Monastery at Ledo, Maha Karunik Buddha Vihar Trust at Guwahati. We have also covered a place called Bomdilla from Arunachal Pradesh where we did 101 surgeries in just 2 days.
In the near future we are targeting and planning to execute ABC-ARV program at more places in all the North-eastern states.
OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE :
People now-a-days are willing to educate themselves about animal welfare and how important it is to co-exist with animals in the society. This gives us a ray of hope that with the support from various organizations and individuals and the government, we will be able to organize more such awareness drives, ABC & ARV programs etc, which will bring us closer to our goal of a ‘Rabies Free Society’.
With this positive aspect we believe to make a Rabies Free Society by 2030!
