JBF- an animal welfare organisation in Guwahati works relentlessly for the necessary care of the neglected animals not just in Guwahati but also in places far away from Guwahati in Assam. JBF has always withstood toughest times and situations that arise from time to time in Assam- the yearly floods, various curfews and bandhs during politically embroiling day and many more. JBF has managed to emerge as the prime saviour and rescuer of the animals whom society tends to forget.
We are here with yet another new situation- the Coronavirus outbreak! This has disrupted normal life and living. The country has come to a lockdown. In such a situation, the stray dogs are the worst sufferers.
A Bongaigaon denizen, Ms Kalyani Mandal, who has been regularly feeding the stray dogs, encountered a new problem during the lockdown days. The lockdown prevented her from going out to feed them resulting in a hungry dog stealing a villager’s hen which annoyed the owner to the extent that he chased the dogs away and prevented her from feeding any dog provided these dogs are seen loitering in the vicinity.
JBF gets a call from this helpless and frustrated person who asked for a way out. JBF offered to help yet again & this time digitally. It reached out to her village and sensitised this villager and also other villagers about the need to feed and care for these stray dogs. They were told how hungry dogs can become dangerous for everybody in the village.
Not just that, JBF even guided Kalyani how to approach officials for permission to allow her to feed the dogs on a regular basis. Fortunately enough, she was granted the permission to feed the dogs every morning. The very next moment, JBF has arranged packaged food for her to feed the dogs in Bongaigaon.
But another problem now stands tall! For how long can she feed them? Where does the money come from? JBF is helping her and others as much as it can. But for how long? With its limited funds JBF is at loggerheads to make ends meet.
The demand for dog food is continuously pouring in and if JBF isn’t supported, it won’t be able to sustain for long. When JBF is doing the job of taking care of the stray dogs for us, can we not take care of JBF to help it carry on with their selfless work?
I appeal to you all to come forward and offer your help so that JBF can continue to help us. Your help in this time of crisis will go a long in saving and protecting our society.
