JBF (INDIA) TRUST popularly known as JBF Just Be Friendly witnessed the Animal Care Expo, 2022 which was held at Orlando, Florida and organized by The Humane Society of the United States. It was a four day expo celebrating the 30th anniversary of Animal Care Expo. We grabbed this outstanding opportunity because of Humane Society International who selected our abstract for poster title: “A pilot approach to find out why dog is considered as food animal and involved it in a trade in some states of North-East India“, and for this we are grateful to The Humane Society International and HSUS for inviting poster presentation in- person. Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta and Dr Smriti Rekha Dutta represented JBF at the expo and demonstrated the most obnoxious issue hovering over the North-Eastern part of India, “Dog Meat Trade”. They not only represented JBF but also represented India as they were the only Indians who were invited to the expo. The subject matter chosen to be exhibited is a concerning matter which imprints a relatively dreadful impact on society. Human consumption of dog meat has been recorded in many parts of the world including East and Southeast Asia, West Africa, Europe, Oceania and America. Dog meat consumption is not new here in India. Though majority of people does not consume dog meat, it is highly popular and considered as a delicacy in Nagaland, sister state of Assam. Even in several hotels in Kohima, the state capital of Nagaland and the commercial hub Dimapur, dog meat is regularly served. Due to some kind of belief of having high nutritional and medicinal value and at the same time the supply of dogs to immigrate the demand is not proportionate in the state, people intend to collect dogs from the neighboring state, Assam. Presently the dog meat business is a crores of rupees trade in North-Eastern region of India.
