“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent.”

-Milan Kundera

Ambubachi Mela, is the annual Hindu Mela held at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati Assam. This mela is held during monsoon season and it falls during the Assamese month Ahaar. Ambubachi Mela is a ritual of access observed with “Tantrik means”. It is believed that the mother Shakti, Devi Kamakhya goes through her annual cycle of mensturation during this period. This is a yearly celebration of Goddess kamakhya. During this period the main door of the Temple remains closed but the Ambubachi mela goes on. Devotees from across the country gather at Guwahati to pay their homage and seek blessings from Goddess Kamakhya. Ambubachi Mela festival started on 22nd June & will end on 26th June 2022.

JBF, an Animal Welfare Organization, works in collaboration with Guwahati Municipal Corporation. JBF believes in the co-existence of Human-Animal. It has been seen that many animals keep roaming around the surrounding of temple littering and chasing the devotees and visitors at the Temple. Among them were goats, cows, pigeons and mostly stray dogs which create a havoc among the devotees and visitors. To ensure the safety of both human and animals, JBF Team picked up the street dogs from the surrounding area of Kamakhya temple on 20th of June which will be restored to the same premises after completion of Ambubachi Mela. Dogs will undergo an ABC-ARV program.  JBF Team also carried out an awareness campaign on 21st of June, 2022, at Kamakhya Temple, distributed leaflets, interacted with visitors and talked about the welfare of animals and passed on the message that JBF Team is there, if they call them up for help. Every year JBF helps the animals of Kamakhya.
