On the occasion of World Zoonoses Day, JBF (Just Be Friendly) organized free Anti Rabies vaccination drives for cats & dogs at multiple locations across Assam today. The drive was in collaboration with State Veterinary Hospital, Chenikuthi & Hiyaa’s Vet Clinic, Ghoramara Chariali, Guwahati; Vet Zone Veterinary Clinic, Teok; State Veterinary Hospital, Sivasagar; State veterinary dispensary, Gogamukh and at Satargaon, Kamrup.

Event Details and Highlights:

The Satargaon Animal Welfare Camp was marked by high community engagement. JBF veterinary officials and team worked together to vaccinate the animals. The event fostered a sense of community, with pet owners and JBF representatives discussing the importance of regular vaccinations and animal health care including deworming, medication, and supplements for livestock.

The drive at the State Veterinary Hospital in Chenikuthi & Hiyaa’s Vet Clinic, Ghoramara Chariali, Guwahati, was a resounding success. The team vaccinated pets and free roaming cats & dogs, ensuring they are protected against Rabies. Pet owners expressed their gratitude, highlighting the importance of such drives for community safety.

At Vet Zone Veterinary Clinic in Teok, the anti-rabies vaccination drive saw enthusiastic participation from the local community. Pet owners and their furry companions lined up to receive their vaccinations, making the event both successful and heartwarming.

The vaccination camp at the State Veterinary Hospital in Sivasagar brought together local officials, pet owners, and animal lovers. The team worked tirelessly to ensure that every pet and free roaming animal received the Anti Rabies vaccine. The collaborative effort was praised by the community, emphasizing the importance of such health initiatives.

In Gogamukh, the State Veterinary Dispensary hosted a well-organized vaccination camp. The turnout was impressive, with many pet owners bringing their animals for vaccination and learning about zoonotic disease prevention.

Due to weather and flood conditions in Assam, the planned award ceremony by JBF to recognize outstanding contributions to animal welfare at the Guwahati Press Club on World Zoonoses Day had to be canceled. However, we were honored to present the Animal Welfare Field Veterinarian Award 2024 to Dr Panjit Basumatary at the College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara. It was an honor for us to handover this award by Dr. Bibeka Nanda Saikia, Dean of the College, whose gracious presence made the occasion truly memorable. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the College for accommodating us and ensuring the award ceremony could still took place.

Founder and Managing Trustee of JBF, Dr Sashanka Sekhar Dutta said “On World Zoonoses Day 2024, let’s unite to safeguard both human and animal health by promoting awareness, prevention, and collaboration in the fight against zoonotic diseases. Together, we can build a healthier, safer world for all species.”

JBF remains committed to improving animal health and welfare in Assam. We thank our partners, volunteers, media and the community for their unwavering support and participation in the anti-rabies vaccination drive.
