Earth Day is not just a celebration, but is a day when we pause and listen to our Mother Earth. As 22nd April, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the annual celebration of the environmental movement, there are clear signs all around that the Earth is suffering deeply. From global warming to glaciers melting and wildfires, nature is taking a toll. With this year’s theme “Climate Action” let’s not let today be just another celebratory event, but all make a promise for action that we will all be more responsible towards our environment. It is high time for all the nations to increase their national commitments to the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. Until each and every country and individual come together and take urgent actions, we all are risking more damage to the ecosystem as well as consigning current and future generations to a dangerous future. This year due to COVID-19 pandemic almost all Earth Day events, where there is mass gatherings, have been cancelled. Let’s all stay at home and celebrate this day with a promise to take urgent actions, on an individual level, for our Mother Earth.
