JBF (INDIA) TRUST commonly known as JBF (Just Be Friendly) is a professionally managed not-for-profit social sector organization promoting the welfare of animals since its inception in 2003 and it aims to build a society that enables better life for animals and creates better living conditions with humans.
JBF (INDIA) TRUST is a registered non-profit social sector organization promoting the welfare of animals. Broadly JBF concerns and works on the following areas:
JBF works towards developing a peaceful relationship between Humans and Animals envisaged for the world. The human population has often pushed pets and domesticated animals into straying. JBF works to address their needs and provide care for these animals. As inhabitants of this planet, Earth and as each organism holding a significant part in the food chain, we are all dependent on each other, and co-existing is the mantra to transcend it.
It is for us humans; the animals are interrupted to live their normal lives. Subject to huge usage of plastic, hunger for meat, aggressive suburbanization leading to many accidents killing thousands of stray animals on the road, human-made natural calamities to which animals are prey to, JBF has categorized its activities and programs into four main broad initiatives like Humane Dog Population Management, Rescue and on the spot treatment, Awareness Drive & Education program, Disaster relief & Response attempting to bridge the gap between humans and animals & paving the way for co-existence.
Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta has been actively associated to the field of animal welfare since 26 years. A veterinarian by profession, his zeal to work for the developmental sector and undying compassion towards all living beings has given birth to JBF (INDIA) TRUST also known as JBF (Just Be Friendly), an organized group of like-minded professionals and staff working to encourage co-existence between human and animals.
Starting in 2003, JBF simultaneously works at the local level for other humane activities apart from animal welfare. Social Entrepreneur, Dr. Dutta has been directing all its projects related to education, entrepreneurship, livelihood and occupation, public health, women empowerment, disaster response and other such schemes on sustainable welfare and social development of the society since its existence. He is the founder and Chief Functionary of Skill Turner, legally known as JBF Welfare Organization, a separate wing under his organization.
He is presently performing as the Secretary of Rotary Club of Guwahati and a Clinician at Hiyaa’s Clinic and Surgical Centre for Pets at Guwahati.
Being involved in a number of national and international social events, Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta is currently engaged in visualizing an exclusive project aimed to provide an integrated facility for animal welfare.
JBF has a rich human resource working on animal welfare in Assam and Delhi in India. It has a dedicated team of full time experienced Veterinarians supported strongly by a team of Veterinary assistants. The technical team both in Delhi and Guwahati consists of Veterinarians, Animal Welfare specialist/activist and Veterinary Assistant is further supported by additional support staff members including coordinators, networking & fundraising professionals, dog handlers, cleaners and data entry operators. The surgeons are skilled for spay/neuter operations & emergency rescue. They are trained by Indian as well as International experts. The master animal handler is trained to international standard and he pass on the skills to many local animal handlers. The organizational set up is framed in such a manner to ensure the smooth and prompt functioning of the JBF team. Additionally JBF has support of a huge group of Veterinarians on call basis to handle emergencies.
JBF currently has a center at Guwahati that serve as Animal Rescue and Birth Control Unit. JBF have all the basic necessities to achieve goals and objectives of the projects. That includes administrative to technical; computers to Operation Theater, telephone to dog transporting ambulance & dog catching equipment.
The Guwahati center is equipped with Operation Theater, pre-operative room, and autoclave, generator, bicycles and an “Animal Transporting Vehicle” with the support from HAI (Help Animals India). This vehicle also serves as awareness creating tool. Jorhat also has a well-equipped infrastructure with a functioning Dog Transporting Cart (DTC) and a center that act as Animal Birth Control Unit.
JBF has received single largest individual support from Late Ms. Anne Little of United Kingdom in the years 2010. Paying tribute to Ms. Little, the trust has utilized a major portion of the fund to purchase a 2.5 acre land near Guwahati, Assam. The land is being developed for a project to set up an integrated facility for animal welfare that can conduct quality research, delivery of services and training of skill workers all within one umbrella administration.
