On the 17th of April, a dog about 10 years old died due to Rabies in Guwahati. It was shocking for us as the dog was looked after by an inhabitant of Chandmari, Guwahati but was never vaccinated or being clinically taken care of. As reported by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Authority and caretaker itself, that the dog was out of control and was trying to bite everyone including other dogs of the area. As the situation was getting worse, GMC requested JBF (Just Be Friendly) to take the dog to Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, College of Veterinary Science, Khanapara, Guwahati for treatment. But unfortunately the dog died on its way and while post-mortem, it was declared that the dog was Rabies positive.
This is one incident that was reported to us but there could be many more such incidents that aren’t reported and there is a possibility for more such incidents may occur in the future. Our concern lies in the severe consequences that may take many innocent lives in the future.
