Often we see a stray dog in an awful condition and think of the various factors which may help that creature. It is always peaceful to help anyone in need but before we move further, we should know the other causes which leads the unpleasant situation of any animal.

The basic problem is over population. The increasing amount of stray dogs in India is not only causing struggle for the dogs living in streets but also to the people around. There are many cases which states that stray dogs bite the people and because there is no awareness about the prevention, people also die due to rabies infection. Then what is the solution? Kill them? During British period in 19th century stray dogs were killed in order to control the population which continued till the independence. But now Government has made a rule to prevent mass killing of street dogs as well as to develop animal welfare society. Despite of the Government rules, the municipal corporations continue to kill the animals in the name of population control. The ignorance of the authority towards this matter continues even though the government is building up rules for animal welfare. There is no strict law for animal welfare which is the main reason for the neglecting behaviour of the authorities.

The solution for this trouble is simple, spay and neuters the stray dogs. It is the responsibility of the Government and Municipal corporations to provide spay and neuters for street dogs. Nowadays many Ngos and individuals provide this facility too. JBF also conduct such events where many stray dogs are spays and neuters to control the population.

The municipal corporation should also be active to look after any accident which may create crisis situation around. The ignorance of such authorities creates unnecessary nuisance in the area. People should also be aware of the various safety measures to be taken while dealing with stray dog.

JBF tries to reach out such cases but due to lack of manpower, it is unfeasible for us to attain every case. We welcome the volunteers who are happy to help us for informing us plus helping us to handle the whole situation. JBF provides vaccination for rabies and other infections, awareness drives, spay and neuter of stray dogs, emergency diagnostics to the needed case.  We believe that the problem should be cut out from its roots so help us to grow and work progressively for the stray dogs.
